The study of Veljko Milković’s inventions spans all continents. Most of the research is related to the use of the pendulum-powered pump, and one of the most recent papers comes from the African continent – from Uganda. This paper was published as part of a project at the Department of Physics within the undergraduate Natural Sciences program at Makerere University, one of the oldest and most prestigious universities in Africa, located in Kampala, the capital of Uganda.

It is well known that the African continent is the least technologically developed in terms of infrastructure, and many projects focus on solving fundamental problems at the level of local communities. One such problem is the efficient extraction of water from wells, both for daily needs and for irrigation purposes. The two-stage mechanical oscillator, when applied to a mechanical water pump, has proven particularly useful in such projects. The elegance of this invention lies in the simplicity of its design, to the extent that it can be replicated in local settings using basic tools. For this reason, the majority of scientific papers referring to Veljko Milković’s concepts deal specifically with the pendulum-powered pump.

In this particular paper, Milković’s pendulum pump concept is explored at a very basic level, using a wooden structure and plastic components. The goal is to examine the efficiency of the concept and its benefits, as well as to determine the amount of work output and potential savings, along with an analysis of results obtained by testing various mechanical adjustments. These adjustments involve the length and position of the pendulum on the beam, the desired length and position of the beam in relation to the support structure, the weight of the pendulum, and the outcomes that occur when these parameters are changed.

Although this paper does not belong to the category of advanced research, its value lies in the initial steps that can be taken to study such a mechanism in a home setting and in determining results that could later be validated using a more advanced model made from higher-quality materials.
